Welcome to the April 30th, 2021 Edition of Lingerie Sewing Round Up!
If you are new around here, the Lingerie Sewing Roundup is a curation of a few projects, tips and tutorials, and ongoing events in the lingerie sewing community. These posts will encompass swimwear sewing and activewear sewing as well. It’s a quick catch up up for you to enjoy with a cup of coffee or tea. The roundup is posted twice a month, on the 15th and the last day of every month.
If you want to be part of the lingerie sewing roundup, shoot me an email at thetailormadeblog[@]gmail.com with links to your video, blog post, or just photos if you don’t have a blog and I’ll be sure to include your work!
The roundup image features the Black Beauty Bra by Emerald Erin. (This is View B, sans power bar and I made it with quilted lower cups.)

Projects & Makes
- Follow along as Aprils sews up a strawberry print triangle bikini top and high leg swim bottoms.
- Flavia’s colorful bodysuit make (which is a Barrett Bralette pattern hack) is super fun!
- Major heart eyes for this silk + tulle ombré bra that Liz sewed up as a Tiana inspired lingerie make!
Lisa made this gorgeous strapless Black Beauty Bra as part of the #100DaysOfSewingLingerie challenge. These are the changes she made to the pattern to make this hack possible:
– raised the centre bridge by 1cm and outer cup edge by 0.5cm
– pinched out a 8mm wedge from the top cup edge
– straightened off the top cup (to start with I curved but it was too high so a bit got snipped off at the last minute!!)
– added boning for extra support
-this is a 30DD with an Orange 38 wire (from Emerald Erin shop)
– Lisa of Selvedge and Stitch
Tips & Tutorials
- Lisa did a book review on Lingerie Secrets.
- Katie covers Everything You Need to Sew Swimwear.
- Nikki talks about Swimwear Fabrics and More.
- Laurie has a post on What Rings and Sliders to Use.
News & Events
We’ve been blessed with a quite a few pattern releases recently!
New Bra Pattern: Riley Crossover Bra
Rad Patterns has just released the Riley Crossover Bra. As per the pattern company:
The Riley Crossover Bra is a comfortable, light to medium support bralette with a crossed front. This pattern includes options for a pullover style bra or with a front closure. The front closure can be done using snaps or S hooks and creates adjustability through the band as well as a convenient way to get it on and off for those who have trouble with pullover styles. The back is a wider racer back style for comfort and support.
This pattern is also very nursing friendly and the adjustability means it can fit through the rib cage changes during pregnancy and postpartum.
You can purchase the Riley Crossover Bra Pattern here.
New Underwear Pattern: Highbury Knickers
Contour Atelier just released their first lingerie sewing pattern in the form of the Highbury Knickers. As per the company:
This non-stretch knicker is suitable for beginners as well as more experienced sewists.
The design is a flattering high-leg ‘Brazilian’ style brief, intended for use with luxury non-stretch fabrics such as tulle, lace or embroidered tulle.
The pattern includes 3 styles and you will learn how to work with delicate fabrics, create an enclosed gusset and apply three different types of elastic.
You can purchase the Highbury Knickers Pattern here.
New Underwear Pattern: Imogen High Waisted Lace Undies
Aureola Patterns (a new-to-me pattern company) just released their Imogen Panties Pattern. As per the pattern company:
IMOGEN panties – your new everyday essential for feeling comfortable and confident!
Printable PDF pattern for high waisted lace panties. Pattern available in 7 different sizes.
We have noticed that mass produced lingerie does not really fit to real bodies other than models. Our passion is to create pattern that will actually fit and feel comfortable. Most panties have so small gussets which do not give you any coverage, so in our patter we have improve it. It actually doesn’t change a lot, but these small differences is what matter the most.
You can purchase the Imogen Panties Pattern here.
New Underwear Pattern: Cutie Booty Boxer Briefs
The Cutie Booty Boxer Briefs Pattern is Patterns for Pirates’ latest underwear pattern offering. As per the pattern company:
The Cutie Booty Boxer Briefs are some of my all time favorite style of underwear! I love to wear them for pjs in the hotter months. They’re also perfect under dresses. You can find the perfect combination of options between 3 waistband options, 2 rise options, 3 inseam length and 3 leg finishing options. Or just make a stack of all the different ones, because they’re so quick and fun to make. The center front and back panels can use up those hoarded favorite scraps you’ve been saving too!
Drafted for high stretch (4 way stretch) knit fabrics like cotton spandex. I really love a good quality cotton spandex for these, you can try out other high stretch knits, but I promise the cotton spandex will be amazing!
Options include: low, mid high rises; short, mid, long inseam lengths; exposed elastic, stretch lace, knit band waistbands; and hemmed, stretch lace or knit band leg finishes.

Now Available: Swimwear Sewing Planners
Just in time for the warmer weather ☀️ (at least in the northern hemisphere): Swimwear Sewing Planners! 👙 Available in two colorways (nautical or summery) AND two sizes (6″ x 9″ or 8″ x 10″).
One of the most common feedback that I received for the lingerie sewing planner is the wish for dedicated space to draw/sketch out project ideas. I could not think of a way to incorporate that into the 6″ x 9″ planner size without the Project Plan pages feeling too cluttered, so my solution was to come out with two planner sizes for the swimwear sewing planner.
The key difference between the two sizes is that the 8″ x 10″ planner has a space for your project sketches/drawings. 💫
You can learn more about the Swimwear Sewing Planners and where to purchase here.
That’s it for this roundup. Thanks for reading!
