Pattern Review : Evie la Luve Frankie Panties
Hi guys! Today I have a pattern review for you. I was asked by Hannah of Evie la Luve to pattern test the Frankie Panties pattern prior to its release. And guys…I’m so excited about this pattern! How much do I love this pattern? Let me count the ways….

Pros
- The Frankie Panties are sized from XXS to XXL, fitting hips 33″- 43 1/2″. The larger range of alphanumeric sizes means that each alphanumeric size contains a smaller range of numeric sizes–this means you can really fine tune the fit of these panties! (Updated 3/13/17)
- It’s a well designed pattern with tons of variations. If you are someone who gets stuck on pattern hacking a basic panties pattern for more designs, this pattern is perfect for you. Hannah does the pattern hacking for you and all you have to do is pick a design variation and sew it.
- The instructions are very clear and Hannah took care to photograph each step. She doesn’t skimp on instructions for any of the pattern variation.
- A beginner can definitely tackle this pattern. It sews up quickly and easily.
- The rise of these panties are hella comfortable. I’m incredibly long torsoed and I really dislike it when panties sit low. The rise on the Frankie Panties are perfect for everyday wear.
- I carry my weight in my hips, thighs, and bum, so I really like it when underwear patterns offer more bum coverage. The Frankie Panties pattern definitely achieves that.
Cons
- None. Zip. Nada. You’ll love this pattern. I promise.
Seriously guys. This pattern is so amazing that I hit pause on all my sewing projects and made FIVE variations immediately after Hannah sent me the pattern. She had only asked me to make one variation.
Here are the five variations that I made.
Style #3 with Lace Detail # 2
I sewed up style #3 and paired it with lace detail #2 in an ivory colorway. Frequent readers of this blog know that I love strappy details, so you bet I was going to do at least one variation with the back straps.
Materials Used
- Off-White Stretch Mesh from Tailor Made Shop
- Off-White Lace from Tailor Made Shop
- Ivory Narrow Elastic Lace Trim from Sew Sassy
- Ivory Fold Over Elastic from Tailor Made Shop
- Gold Bikini Clasp from Tailor Made Shop
- Gold Sliders from Tailor Made Shop
Style #5 with Lace Detail # 1
I’m currently obsessed with the rose pink stretch mesh that I just added to my shop, so I made three Frankie Panties using it and pairing it with different laces and fold over elastic colors. For this version, I picked style #5 and combined it with lace detail #1.
Materials Used
- Rose Pink Stretch Mesh from Tailor Made Shop
- Powder Pink Lace from Tailor Made Shop
- Pink Fold Over Elastic from Tailor Made Shop (coming soon!)
Style #6
Here’s the second pair using the rose pink stretch mesh in Style #6. To get a different look, I opted for a lace back and accented the rose pink stretch mesh with a darker pink narrow elastic lace trim (Sew Sassy actually calls this color Peachy Beige). I also finished the waistband with contrast lilac foldover elastic.
Materials Used
- Rose Pink Stretch Mesh from Tailor Made Shop
- Powder Pink Lace from Tailor Made Shop
- Peachy Beige Narrow Elastic Trim from Sew Sassy
- Lavender Fold Over Elastic from Tailor Made Shop
Style #5
Here is the third pair of rose pink stretch mesh Frankie Panties in style #5. I created a colorblocking effect by using three different fold over elastic colors. Also, I wish I could say that I was original enough to come up with this idea, but I actually stole the idea from these swimwear bottoms by Tavik. I think I will be employing this colorblocking technique a lot in the near future. 😉
Out of the five pair of Frankie Panties that I made, this one is my favorite. I actually like simple, clean designs over pretty lacy details.
Materials Used
- Rose Pink Stretch Mesh from Tailor Made Shop
- Mauve Fold Over Elastic from Tailor Made Shop
- Mineral Ice Fold Over Elastic from Tailor Made Shop
- Papaya Fold Over Elastic from Tailor Made Shop
Style #1
Here’s style #1 in an off-white stretch mesh and linen/pink/green/white narrow elastic lace trim. This pair is my second favorite because of its simple elegance. 😉
Materials Used
- Off-White Stretch Mesh from Tailor Made Shop
- Linen/Pink/Green/White Narrow Elastic Trim from Tailor Made Shop
- Ivory Fold Over Elastic from Tailor Made Shop
Final Thoughts on the Frankie Panties Pattern
For the longest time, I’ve been looking for a pair of bikini panties pattern that checked off my list of preferences. Comfortable rise? Check. Decent bum coverage? Check. Attractive front leg cut? Check.
I am honestly too lazy to draft my own and I’m so glad that Hannah came out with the Frankie Panties pattern. Now I can finally dig into all the beautiful printed stretch mesh fabric that I’ve been hoarding away. I think the Frankie Panties pattern has officially dethroned Make Bra’s Hipster Panties pattern as my favorite panties pattern. Expect to see a bazillion more of them.
How about you? Have you tried the Frankie Panties pattern? How do you like them? Share in the comments below!

I am hoping to get started this week on some of my own Frankies. Yours are scrumptious . What is the stretch percentage of the mesh you have?

Thank you! The stretch mesh has 50% vertical stretch and 25% stretch across the grain. 🙂

The Frankie Panties pattern comes in an incredible size range. It goes from XXS to XXL.
What??? It’s the equivalent of size 2 to size 16 in standard US sizing. That’s not incredible by any stretch of the imagination.

I stand corrected! I was actually thinking about in terms of the alphanumeric size range (XXS-XXL). Most panties patterns come in S-L or XS-XL or XS-XXL, but in terms of inches, the Frankie Panties pattern offering is standard. I’ll add a little edit to my post. 🙂
But I do love that it comes in XXS-XXL and that each alphanumeric size contains a smaller range of numeric sizes, which means you can really fine tune the fit of the panties!
