What I Made : Two Romantic Balconette Bralettes

Handmade Bralettes DIY Lingerie Bra Making Balconette Bralettes

Hi guys! In the spirit of Valentine’s, I whipped up these two romantic balconette bralettes for myself. Yes, I make this pattern a lot, but it’s the bra I reach for the most on a daily basis. I see no harm in making variations of a wardrobe staple that gets a lot of wear. To keep this basic style interesting, I always make it in a different lace.

The first one is made from a romantic off-white lace with contrast ice blue straps. I know someย bra makers shy away from white/off-white/ivory/cream bras because it can read bridal. This is especially true if you use a luxurious lace or silk fabric. However, I want you to challenge that outlook. Your clothing wardrobe probably contains white tees, a white crisp button down shirt, or a drapey white blouse. So why not a white bra?

I’m also a firm believer that you should wear lingerie that makes you feel comfortable and confident. I tend to look good in White/Off-White/Ivory/Cream garments, so I think it stands to reason that lingerie in those colors are flattering on me. A trick to keep White/Off-White/Ivory/Cream lingerie from reading bridal is to pair the main fabric with contrast trimmings and notions. Give it a try and let me know the results!

The second balconette bralette is made from a gorgeous red/pink metallic lace. As soon as I had the lace in my hands, I knew I had to make something for myself. This was a timely make, because it was Lunar New Year and I don’t own any red garments. Every year, I improvise. Last year I wore a burgundy cardigan. Close enough. This year, I got a kick out of wearing this red/pink balconette bralette underneath my outfit which otherwise doesn’t contain a speck of red. Again. Close enough.

They’re both lovely ! I personally tend to flock toward saturated colors like olives, golds, burnt orange, burgundy and teal because I find them flattering to my skin, so most of my me-made bras reflect that. The laces are just gorgeous !

They’re so pretty Ying! Have I ever mentioned how envious I am of anyone who can wear a bralette? Sadly, way too much boobage prevents me from doing so. But they sure are fun to sew for gifts, and your makes (of all types) are always very inspiring to me. Also, thanks for feeding my lace addiction .

Thank you! ๐Ÿ™‚ I feel like bralettes are getting more and more popular and there are more offerings for larger sizes too since “comfort” is the current trend in the Fashion Industry. The Madalynne x Simplicity 8228 bralette is available for larger sizes too. Also the Ohh Lu Lu Jasmine bra seems to work for larger bust sizes too. Have you given either of those a try? ๐Ÿ™‚

      Hello,

I don’t sell the bras/bralettes that I make. I sell the materials to make them.

      Best,
      Ying

Hello! I really love all the versions you’ve made for this bralet -very lovely. I have a very hard time finding patterns for balconette bras so I’ve been scouring the site looking for the link to this one. I know it is self drafted but in the previous comment you mention it is a pattern available from Amy.
WHO is Amy?! ๐Ÿ™‚ could you post a link please.
    Thank you so much!

      Hi Brooke,

That response was to a comment regarding the Harriet Bra, which is a pattern by Amy of Cloth Habit (www.clothhabit.com). I’m not sure why that comment showed up in one of my balconette bralette posts. O_O The balconette bralette pattern is a self-drafted pattern and it’s not currently available anywhere. I am working on releasing it as a pattern eventually. For similar patterns, check out Ohhh Lulu’s Jasmine Bra or Evie la Luve’s Willow Bra.

      Best,
      Ying
