Finding the Perfect Lingerie Dress Form // Part One: Researching and Choosing a Dress Form

Finding the Perfect Lingerie Dress Form: Researching and Choosing a Dress Form

**11/9/17: Sale alert! PGM Dress Form is having a Thanksgiving sale currently. You can enjoy a 10% discount + Free Shipping (free shipping only apply to local USA continental over $100) with promo code 10percentTKS on their website.**

Hi guys! As some of you probably know, I purchased the PGM 602E Lingerie Dress Form a few months back. I have a review for that dress form coming soon, but I wanted to share with you my journey to finding a lingerie dress form before settling on the PGM form.

Everyone’s criteria for an ideal lingerie dress form differs, so I hope my research will aid you in your quest for finding the form that is perfect for your needs!

For me, I’ve been thinking of getting a lingerie dress form for photography/display purposes.  I enjoy taking flat photos of my finished lingerie projects, but I think they look better on a body or a dress form. Photographing lingerie on a body or a form gives you a better idea of the cut and style lines of a particular bra or underwear pattern. Since I’m unwilling to model my lingerie projects, the next best thing is to buy a dress form.

I will also be using the dress form for pattern reviews, because it’s useful to have a model with consistent measurements modeling all the different patterns out there.

In this post, I will cover the following topics:

  • What I’m Looking for in a Lingerie Dress Form
  • Various Dress Forms I’ve  Considered and Their Pros and Cons
  • Which Form I Ended Up Choosing and Why

What I Made: Evie la Luve Willow Bras in Wrap Around Style

Evie la Luve Willow Bra Wrap Around View

Happy November guys! I can’t believe how quickly October has flown by!

I want to take a moment to thank you everyone who took the time to complete the Tailor Made Shop 2017 Feedback Survey! The survey is now closed, but I will be reading all your feedback and taking notes for 2018 planning.

One of the things that many of you asked for are more bra kits for Indie Bra Patterns. Well I have good news! I put together bra kits for the Evie la Luve Willow Bra in the Wrap Around Style!

The Classic View can be made with my regular soft bra kits, but the wrap around view requires a bikini clasp and an unusual number of rings and sliders. To save you the trouble of hunting down the hardware, I put together kits for the Wrap Around View!

The two Willow Bras I have pictured here today are made from those exact kits.

I have a pattern review of the Willow Bra in the works, but today I will just share a few notes about the construction and fit of the bra. I actually made the Willow Bra up in the Classic View first, but I didn’t get a chance to photograph them for the blog. A friend visited me in September and she ended up taking them with her because they fit her really well!

For reference, she wears a 32C and the Willow Bra in XXS fits her perfectly with no alternations needed. I made the Classic View in Scuba and in a medium-heavy weight confetti dot stretch mesh for her.

For the wrap around views, I made the from scuba and lined them entirely in stretch mesh. All the seams are neatly enclosed.

I only made two very small changes in terms of construction. One, I used a 3/8″ picot plush elastic for the bottom band. A 1/2″ picot elastic would have been too wide for size XXS.

Two, I secured the back strap extension to the top and bottom edge of the bra back. The instruction has you attach the back strap extension just to the top edge of the bra back.

Other than that, this was a quick easy and satisfying sew!

Have you tried sewing Evie la Luve’s Willow Bra? Which view did you make? Share in the comments below!

Adventures in Fabric Design Part Two: Relearning How to Draw & Watercolor Supplies

Tailor Made Shop Designing Your Own Fabrics

Hi guys! I recently decided to start designing my own fabric, and it’s been one big learning curve for me since I don’t have a background in surface pattern design or watercolors. Since I know that we all have to start from somewhere, I thought it would be interesting and perhaps helpful to share my journey with you.

To that end, I’ve started this series “Adventures in Fabric Design” to document my every step in this whole process. Hopefully it helps some of you who are looking get started in fabric design as well.

For Part Two, I will be covering my process for picking up drawing again and the watercolor supplies I use to create my watercolor artwork.
